Comparativo e superlativo degli avverbi

In breve

forma base comparativo superlativo
carefully more carefully the most carefully
often more often the most often
fast faster the fastest
early earlier the earliest
hard / late / soon harder / later / sooner the hardest / latest / soonest
well better the best
badly worse the worst

Il secondo termine è sempre than (mai of): drives more carefully than me. Per l'azione serve l'avverbio, non l'aggettivo: niente more careful, niente more faster.

Sai già confrontare le cose con gli aggettivi (My car is faster than yours).

1. La maggior parte degli avverbi: more e the most

slowlymore slowlythe most slowly

3. Due avverbi irregolari: well e badly

well (bene) e badly (male) cambiano del tutto, proprio come meglio e peggio.

Il secondo termine: than

She drives more carefully than her brother. I got there earlier than you. Dopo than va un pronome complemento (than me, than him) oppure una breve frase (than I do, than he did). Quando il superlativo sta in fondo alla frase, nel parlato the spesso cade: Who drives (the) fastest?

In italiano si dice tranquillamente guida più veloce o parla chiaro, ma in inglese, se la parola descrive l'azione (come uno guida, parcheggia, frena), ci vuole l'avverbio: more carefully, non more careful. Non dire mai more good né gooder: la forma è better.
