Los números ordinales y las fechas
En resumen
| Cardinal | Ordinal |
|---|---|
| one, two, three | first, second, third |
| four, six, seven, ten, thirteen | fourth, sixth, seventh, tenth, thirteenth |
| five, eight, nine, twelve | fifth, eighth, ninth, twelfth |
| twenty, thirty, forty, ninety | twentieth, thirtieth, fortieth, ninetieth |
| twenty-one, thirty-one, thirty-two | twenty-first, thirty-first, thirty-second (solo la última parte) |
La fecha va con ordinal, no con el número normal: 5 May se dice the fifth of May (EE. UU.: May fifth). It's the fifth of May: sin on. The party is on the fifth of May: con on cuando algo pasa ese día.

| Cardinal | Ordinal | Con cifras |
|---|---|---|
| four | fourth | 4th |
| six | sixth | 6th |
| seven | seventh | 7th |
| ten | tenth | 10th |
| eleven | eleventh | 11th |
| thirteen | thirteenth | 13th |
| seventeen | seventeenth | 17th |
| hundred | hundredth | 100th |
| Cardinal | Ordinal | Con cifras |
|---|---|---|
| one | first | 1st |
| two | second | 2nd |
| three | third | 3rd |
| Cardinal | Ordinal | Con cifras |
|---|---|---|
| twenty | twentieth | 20th |
| thirty | thirtieth | 30th |
| forty | fortieth | 40th |
| fifty | fiftieth | 50th |
| ninety | ninetieth | 90th |
| Cardinal | Ordinal | Con cifras |
|---|---|---|
| twenty-one | twenty-first | 21st |
| twenty-two | twenty-second | 22nd |
| twenty-three | twenty-third | 23rd |
| twenty-five | twenty-fifth | 25th |
| thirty-one | thirty-first | 31st |
| forty-eight | forty-eighth | 48th |
También se oye May the fifth. En Estados Unidos se dice May fifth, sin the ni of: es una variante, no otra regla.
| Escrito | Dicho en voz alta |
|---|---|
| 5 May / 5th May | the fifth of May |
| 1 January | the first of January |
| 22 August | the twenty-second of August |
| May 5 (American) | May fifth |
Para preguntar cuándo pasa algo, When is ...?
Fechas con on
The party is on the twelfth of December. My birthday is on the first of June. Con la fecha escrita, también: on 12 December.
No pongas on cuando solo dices qué día es hoy: Today is the third of March e It's the third of March no llevan on, porque no ocurre nada ese día, solo lo nombras. The exam is on the third of March sí lo lleva, porque el examen ocurre ese día.
