Adverbios de lugar: here y there

En resumen

cerca de mí lejos de mí
señalar una cosa this / these that / those
señalar un lugar here there

ahí y allí son los dos there.

PalabraSignificaVa conEjemplo
herein this place, near methis, theseMy phone is here.
therein that place, away from methat, thoseYour coat is there, on the chair.

  • Después de be: My phone is here. The toilets are there.
  • Después del verbo y su objeto: Put it there. Leave your bag here.
  • Con un imperativo sin objeto, justo después del verbo: Come here. Sit there.

Nunca delante de un sustantivo

this y that van delante del sustantivo (this cup, that door). here y there no pueden ir ahí: the here cup y here cup no existen. En español dices la taza de aquí, pero en inglés no hay of: pones el sustantivo primero y here o there detrás, this cup here, that door there.

  • Sin artículo: The keys are here. Nunca the here ni a there.
Nunca herer ni more there.

Con un verbo de movimiento no lleva ninguna, igual que ven aquí o ve allí: se dice Come here, Go there, nunca Come to here. Pero cerca de aquí no se traduce palabra por palabra: es near here, sin of. lejos de aquí sí lleva preposición: far from here.

El there de There is a cat on the sofa es otra palabra: equivale a hay (lección 15), no a allí, y el gato puede estar a tu lado. No traduzcas aquí hay como here is. Deja there is y pon here al final: There is a cat here. El there de esta lección significa allí y suele ir al final: The cat is there.
