Sai già dire cosa sta succedendo adesso: I'm calling my mother. (Sto chiamando mia madre.) Come stare + gerundio in italiano, il verbo ha due parti: una forma di be (am, is, are) e la forma in -ing. Per la negazione e per le domande si lavora solo su be, esattamente come hai già imparato con be da solo. La forma in -ing non si sposta e non cambia mai.
Negativa: not dopo be
In italiano non va prima del verbo (non sto chiamando). In inglese not va dopo am / is / are, mai prima. Quindi I not calling è sbagliato. Le contrazioni sono le stesse di be: I'm not, isn't o 's not, aren't o 're not.

Qui non c'è don't né doesn't: I don't calling e She doesn't answering sono sbagliati. do serve al present simple (I don't call her every day). Se il verbo finisce in -ing, l'unico ausiliare è be.
Domande sì/no: be per primo
In italiano basta cambiare l'intonazione: Stai ascoltando? In inglese non basta. You are listening? con il tono di domanda non è una domanda corretta. Bisogna invertire soggetto e am / is / are, come con be da solo (Are you busy?). La forma in -ing resta dopo il soggetto.

Risposte brevi: si ripete be, non la forma in -ing
In italiano si risponde con un semplice Sì o No. In inglese la risposta breve naturale ripete am / is / are, e solo quello: niente forma in -ing e mai do.

Evita due errori. Yes, I do. è la risposta del present simple. Yes, I'm. è sbagliata perché la risposta breve affermativa non si contrae mai. Di' Yes, I am. e No, I'm not.
Domande con parola interrogativa
Metti prima la parola interrogativa, poi l'ordine della domanda sì/no: parola wh- + am / is / are + soggetto + forma in -ing. Il soggetto va espresso sempre, anche dove l'italiano lo omette (Cosa stai facendo? → What are you doing?).
- What are you doing? - I'm charging my phone.
- Who is she calling? - Her sister.
- Why isn't he answering? - His phone is on silent.
- Where are they going? - To the office.
Nota Why isn't he answering? La domanda negativa funziona allo stesso modo: la forma contratta isn't / aren't va in avanti e la forma in -ing resta al suo posto.
