B1 · Lezione 24 · Le domande indirette
In inglese però la domanda inserita cambia forma: Could you tell me where the station is?
In inglese no: dentro la domanda indiretta il soggetto torna prima del verbo, come in una frase affermativa (The station is over there), e l'ausiliare do sparisce.
Le tre formule di cortesia
| Formula | Domanda diretta | Domanda indiretta |
|---|---|---|
| Could you tell me + wh-word ...? | Where is the museum? | Could you tell me where the museum is? |
| Do you know + if ...? | Is this bus going to the airport? | Do you know if this bus is going to the airport? |
| I wonder + wh-word ... | What time does the tour start? | I wonder what time the tour starts. |
- Could you tell me ...? Si usa con una parola interrogativa: where, when, what time, how, how much, which.
- Do you know ...? Lì, come in italiano, si aggiunge if («se»), o il più formale whether: Do you know if the bank is open?
I wonder how far the beach is.
Vale per be, per i modali come can e will e per have nel present perfect.
| Domanda diretta | Domanda indiretta |
|---|---|
| Where is the nearest pharmacy? | Could you tell me where the nearest pharmacy is? |
| How long will the trip take? | Do you know how long the trip will take? |
| Where can I buy a ticket? | Could you tell me where I can buy a ticket? |
| Has the last train left? | Do you know if the last train has left? |
Regola 2: niente do, does o did
Nella domanda diretta al present simple o al past simple serve do, does o did.
| Domanda diretta | Domanda indiretta |
|---|---|
| What time does the museum open? | Could you tell me what time the museum opens? |
| Does this road go to the castle? | Do you know if this road goes to the castle? |
| Where did the tour leave from? | I wonder where the tour left from. |
| How much do the tickets cost? | Do you know how much the tickets cost? |
Non copiare l'ordine dell'italiano. «Sa dov'è la stazione?» ti spinge a mettere il verbo subito dopo where: invece scrivi prima il soggetto, where the station is.
Nella lezione 22 riferivi la domanda di qualcun altro, al passato: She asked me where the station was. Could you tell me where the station is? I wonder where it is.
Dove va il punto interrogativo
- Could you tell me ...? e Do you know ...? sono domande, quindi la frase intera termina con il punto interrogativo: Do you know if the tram stops here?
- I wonder ... è un'affermazione, come «mi chiedo», quindi termina con il punto: I wonder which way the old town is.
