B1 · Lección 50 · I find it hard to…; It makes it easy to…: «me resulta difícil…», «facilita…»
La explicación completa, de la lección que enseña esta regla
Para decir lo fácil o difícil que te resulta algo, el inglés usa casi siempre este patrón: I find it hard to sleep («me cuesta dormir»), She found it easy to make friends («le resultó fácil hacer amigos»). Orden: quien lo vive + find + it + adjetivo + to + verbo.
| Quién | find / make | it | adjetivo | to + verbo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | find | it | hard | to sleep. |
| She | found | it | easy | to make friends. |
| The app | makes | it | simple | to pay. |
| We | don't find | it | easy | to ask for help. |
Cuatro usos
- Ahora, en general: find it + adjetivo — I find it difficult to concentrate in the mornings. Con he/she, finds: He finds it hard to wake up.
- En pasado: found it + adjetivo — I found it strange to drive on the left at first.
- Algo lo causa (= «facilita», «dificulta», «hace imposible»): make it + adjetivo; el sujeto es lo que cambia la dificultad: The noise makes it impossible to study. Good teachers make it easier to learn.
- Negativa: don't / doesn't / didn't find it + adjetivo — I don't find it easy to talk to strangers. She didn't find it hard to adapt.
| Uso | Ejemplo | Significado |
|---|---|---|
| find it + adjective + to | My dad finds it hard to use his new phone. | a él le cuesta usarlo |
| found it + adjective + to | I found it easy to make friends at university. | en el pasado, hacer amigos me resultó fácil |
| make it + adjective + to | The new timetable makes it easier to plan my week. | el horario es la causa: lo facilita |
| don't find it + adjective + to | Many people don't find it easy to say no. | a mucha gente no le resulta fácil decir que no |
Adjetivos habituales: easy, hard, difficult, simple, impossible, strange, useful, boring, stressful, comfortable, embarrassing, challenging, rewarding, convenient, straightforward, overwhelming. Tras make también va un comparativo: makes it easier to…, makes it harder to…, makes it more convenient to…. Ojo: convenient es «práctico», no «conveniente».
No calques el español: siempre it después de find/make, y siempre to + verbo al final. She makes easy to understand y I find it hard understand están mal; di She makes it easy to understand y I find it hard to understand. Y «me cuesta» no se traduce con cost: usa find it hard to.
make it + adjetivo no es make somebody do (lección 30), que equivale a «hacer + infinitivo» (el ruido me hizo irme). Compara: The noise made me leave. (make + persona + verbo) y The noise made it hard to sleep. (make + it + adjetivo + to).
