Posle reči ide subjekat + glagol: where the king lived (ne where lived the king). Bez predloga na kraju i bez zareza: the town where I live. Ako glagol ima svoj objekat, ide which/that: the museum which we visited.

Ovo već radiš na srpskom: zamak gde je živeo kralj, dan kada smo se popeli na kulu, razlog zašto je most zatvoren. Engleski where, when i why rade isto što i gde, kada i zašto u odnosnoj rečenici. Zamenjuju predlog + which (kao srpsko u kojem, tog dana, iz tog razloga): This is the castle where the king lived.

Gde se srpski i engleski razilaze
Red reči. U srpskom glagol posle gde često ide pre subjekta: gde je živeo kralj. U engleskom posle where, when i why uvek ide subjekat, pa glagol: the castle where the king lived, nikad where lived the king. Ni posle why nema upitnog reda: the reason why the bridge is closed, a ne why is the bridge closed.
Bez zareza. Srpski obično stavlja zarez ispred odnosne rečenice, a engleski ga ne stavlja kada rečenica određuje o kom mestu je reč: the village where we stayed. Klauza ide odmah posle imenice. Može da završi rečenicu (I love the square where they built the monument.) ili da stoji u sredini, pre glavnog glagola (The square where they built the monument used to be a car park.).
Bez predloga na kraju. Na srpskom biraš između gde i u kojem. U engleskom where već sadrži predlog, pa na kraju klauze ne ide ništa: the town where I live, nikad the town where I live in. Isto važi za when i why: the year when I was born.
Između which i where biraj kao što na srpskom biraš između koji i gde. Ako glagol u klauzi ima svoj objekat (posetili smo muzej), uzmi which ili that: the museum which we visited. Ako je mesto samo lokacija radnje, uzmi where: the museum where we saw the statue. Proveri tako što u klauzu ubaciš there (we saw the statue there). Ako to ima smisla, ide where. Gledaj engleski glagol, ne srpski.
the place where, the reason why
Opšte imenice place, time i reason vrlo su česte ispred ovih reči: a place where we can park, a time when this street was full of shops, the reason why I love this city. Kao što na srpskom kažeš mesto gde smo se upoznali, a ne mesto koje smo se upoznali, tako je i na engleskom the place where we met, nikad the place which we met.
