B1 · Lezione 7 · Il future perfect

Il future perfect (will have + participio passato) è il tuo futuro anteriore: avrò finito = I will have finished. By the time the client called, we had finished the report → By the time the client calls, we will have finished the report.

FormaStrutturaEsempio
Affermativasubject + will have + past participleBy Friday, I will have finished the design.
Forma contrattasubject + 'll have + past participleShe**'ll have sent** the invoice by noon.
Negativasubject + won't have + past participleWe won't have tested the app by Monday.
DomandaWill + subject + have + past participle? Will you have finished the slides by five?
Domanda con wh-wh-word + will + subject + have + participle? How many pages will you have written by tonight?

subject = soggetto, past participle = participio passato: la forma che usi dopo have nel present perfect (finished, sent, written, done, been). will have è uguale per tutte le persone: mai will has. Nella domanda solo will va prima del soggetto; have resta dopo.

L'ausiliare è sempre have, anche dove l'italiano usa essere: sarà partita → she will have left, saremo arrivati → we will have arrived. Non dire mai will be left o will be arrived.

La scadenza: by e by the time

  • by + espressione di tempo = entro: by Friday, by the end of the month, by then.
  • by the time + frase al present simple = entro il momento in cui / quando: by the time the meeting starts, by the time you arrive.

Il future perfect va solo nella frase principale: by the time you arrive, mai by the time you will arrive; e non will have dopo when o as soon as.

Con il future perfect usa sempre by, mai until: I'll have finished by Monday = avrò finito entro lunedì.

Quanto tempo: for + durata

Con for il future perfect somma il tempo fino alla scadenza: By June, I will have worked on this project for two years. Dove l'italiano dice da due anni, qui serve for, mai since né from. Con be il participio è been: By May, she'll have been our manager for a year.

L'inglese non usa will have così: per un'ipotesi si dice must have o probably + passato.

Future continuous o future perfect?

  • At nine I'll be writing the report. — alle nove l'azione è ancora in corso (future continuous: starò scrivendo).
  • By nine I'll have written the report. — entro le nove l'azione è già finita (future perfect: avrò scritto).
